It’s been a while since I last posted a poem on here. That one was all about uncertainty and feeling incapable of making those ‘big and important’ life decisions. This one follows a similar train of thought: it covers the uncertainty we can feel in relation to ourselves. It’s one thing to feel unsure about the future plans you’re making, it’s another thing to feel unsure about your most basic abilities to do things and succeed at them…
One Day You’ll Bloom
be brave
for where
you see
blossom
i see
flowers
you fear
brevity
and the fall
but even
small trees
have roots
and rings
I know a lot of people worry about their capabilities, or lack the confidence in themselves to do the things they want to do. I definitely know how that feels. And so I wrote this poem a couple of weeks ago to reflect that feeling. It’s addressed to both myself and anyone else out there whose self-esteem leaves something to be desired at times: it’s a reminder to us all that we are capable of achieving what we aspire to be and do. We can have a positive impact on the world around us; we can be grounded yet also learn and grow as we age. We may only be small and easily influenced by the wind now, but that doesn’t mean we won’t become the solid oak in the future, wise and sure of ourselves.
